Stakeknife's Dirty War: The Inside Story of Scappaticci, the IRA's Nutting Squad and the British Spooks Who Ran the War

Richard O’Rawe’s second visit to the Hinterland festival could not be more timely. The recent release of the Kenova report has confirmed the thrust of the account offered by O’Rawe about the activities of Freddie Scappaticci in his 2023 book Stakeknife’s Dirty War. Drawing on his own experience as a member of the Belfast IRA in the 1970s and 1980s, and on interviews conducted with former comrades in the Republican movement, O’Rawe, with the research skills of an accomplished journalist and the literary touch of a novelist, laid bare the brutality of the regime led by ‘Scap’, long before his version of events was confirmed by Chief Constable Boutcher and the Kenova team in March of this year.
