The ubiquity of social media has underscored the reality that Ireland has a small but vocal far right political element capable of using forums like X/Twitter for provocative purposes and prone to piggy-backing on local campaigns which feed into their confrontational messaging. But, as Padraig Óg Ó Ruairc’s research has established, while the medium may be different the message is not new. Ireland has harboured fascists since the dawn of fascism in the 1920s.
